It's Gotta Stop

How stupid do we have to be?  How bad does it have to get before we know that it has to stop, and it can only stop when we stand up and make it stop?

If you have the stomach for it, look at these pictures closely, and then tell me you don't understand how men and women in uniform are all fucked up in the head when we finally let them come home.  Why can't they just chill out and relax?  Why do so many of them look away - sometimes they seem embarrassed or even ashamed - while we're falling all over ourselves trying to convince them how grateful we are when all we can do is recite a few meaningless cliches about service and sacrifice that we heard on TV or we saw on a Facebook post?

There's no such thing as a Non-Combatant, and there sure as hell ain't no Un-Wounded Warriors.  What we've been doing for the last 15 years; the damage we're doing - purposefully - to an entire generation of American kids, as well as populations around the world - I guess all I can say is that every one of these asswipe TheoCons better hope there's no god after all, cuz he's gonna be pretty fuckin' pissed at all this shit.

  1. Man, you are one salty dude, lol. That may explain why few people-if anyone for that matter-is commenting on your posts. But, since I find it a waste of time and energy to get worked up over a stranger taking a stab at my character for disagreeing with even in the most trivial elements of any topic, let me be the first to break the ice and post something here.

I will make one suggestion first. Tone down your tirades if you want a broader audience to be more attentive to your message(s). From personal expirience, I had fewer and fewer people involved in political discussions on my FB page once the inflammatory stuff started populating my wall. The few that did respond after some time, shared my political beliefs and nothing productive was ever accomplished as a result of that other than a feeling of self-vindication against anyone who dared to challenge my position on various issues. Nothing worthwhile in terms of a intellectual debate came of my political rants and if anything, they weakened my positions on certain topics because I had no objective and/or subjective information from opposing views to solidify my own views. Of course, this is your blog and it is obviously well within your right to manage it in any manner you choose. But, if you want a debate, be more inviting with your discussions. This doesn't imply abdicating your position, it simply means 86'ing character assasination of those with opposing political views and placing a greater emphasis on challenging their positions.

Switching gears, I would say that patriotism and taking a bullet for the ol' Gipper on the Uncle Sam posters is the last thing on the mind of someone who is in a real-time environment of deafening explosions, the smell of rotten eggs, blood, piss, and shit, and ripped flesh from artillery shells and large caliber bullets. I think too many people have a romanticized view of what it means for someone to join the military and why they do it. This view gets even more convoluted when a serviceman goes to war. People don't think about what their experiences were like and I think it is blashphemous to insinuate and assume nonsensical shit about why they went to fight overseas instead of listening to what they have to say through their own expiriences, if they care to share anything about them. In other words, most people don't seem to give it any thought to listen to what their own personal reasons for going to war were, and how they felt about being deployed to war against their will. I admit some guilt in behaving this way at one time, but since my whole outlook on warfare has changed since then, I am much more cautious about assuming one's motivations for military service.

I don't think American hegemony, especially initiating an armed conflict is restricted to the Republicans and never will be. Lyndon B., for example greatly escalated the war in Vietnam, provoked the first Gulf of Tonkin incident and fabricated the second one to justify armed intervention in Vietnam. What was worse, was Ngo Dinh Diem was a right wing dictator who was every bit as bad or worse than Ho Chi Mingh in terms of human rights violations. To summarize, both the Dems and Republicans have blood on their hands from starting needless wars and for propagating hegemonous foreign policy.

    As a side note, I'm a Libertarian. I don't consider you a political ally or enemy. ;-)

    1. First: How do you look at those pictures and then try to tell me I'm overreacting when I say people who cause that kind of suffering should burn for it?

Second: Nobody gets anywhere peddling that centrist crap about "both sides do it" "they're all the same" etc, ad nauseam. All that accomplishes is to keep people turned off and out of the process; which benefits those already in power by propping up the status quo; which is pretty much the main problem.

Third: Calling yourself "Libertarian" is too often another way of saying you don't have guts enough to make a real commitment and then to stand on the courage of your convictions.

Finally: I'll let somebody else figure out the softly polite ways of calling lying sacks of shit something other than lying sacks of shit. I'm not interested in making any effort not to offend your delicate sensibilities.

  2. I know this is your blog, and by the looks of it, you align yourself with the democrats. I will say ahead of time that I disagree with many of your positions on political issues, though not all of them. However, I didn't stumble upon this site to go hunting down liberals so I can troll their websites/blogs. I was actually googling the story on Evelyn Mchale and somehow ended up here....yeah, don't ask cause I don't know either. But since I am here, hopefully we can have a civilized debate from time to time. That being said, my earlier post critiquing your blog was meant to provide constructive critcism, nothing else. I respect your opinions even if I disagree with them, so please be mindful of this. Take care!
