COVID-19 Update

There's still a fight going on about how COVID-19 data is to be handled and by whom. So we just have to sit tight, wait, and see how it shakes out.

Watch for the reporting coming out of the localities in states where hospitals are getting really busy with this thing, and where some mayors and county executives are telling their governors to back off.

President Trump sought Tuesday to put a positive spin on the U.S. response to the pandemic — contending on Twitter that “we are doing very well” — as he prepared to resume regular public briefings amid a surge in the number of infected Americans.

Trump is scheduled to appear at 5 p.m. in the White House briefing room, part of an effort to get more directly involved in his administration’s messaging by returning to the stage where he headlined lengthy news conferences in March and April.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll released Friday showed 38 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the outbreak, down from 46 percent in May and 51 percent in March.

In morning tweets on Tuesday, Trump offered a likely preview of his remarks later in the day, accusing the media of bias in its coverage of the pandemic and claiming successes that are not receiving attention.

“You will never hear this on the Fake News concerning the China Virus, but by comparison to most other countries, who are suffering greatly, we are doing very well - and we have done things that few other countries could have done!” Trump claimed.

In another tweet, he wrote: “Tremendous progress being made on Vaccines and Therapeutics!!!”

His renewed focus on the coronavirus marks a shift from recent weeks, when Trump held events largely centered on other subjects, such as cutting regulations. On Monday, he made headlines by tweeting a photo of himself in a mask — an image he long avoided — and declaring it “Patriotic” to wear masks.

So, here comes the next big Daddy State test: How long will it take the rubes to do a complete one-eighty? How long will it take them to get all masked up and start pretending they've been the ones advocating for masks all along - and, "If it wasn't for those stoopid libtards always getting in Trump's way, we'd have this thing licked by now"?
