Fauci sees vaccination for kids by summer; a look at the coronavirus vaccines in use, or getting close

The government's top infectious disease expert said Friday he hopes to see some kids starting to get vaccinated for COVID-19 in the next few months. It's a needed step to securing widespread immunity to the virus.

Vaccines are not yet approved for children, but testing already is underway for those as young as 12.

If those trials are successful, Dr. Anthony Fauci said they would be followed by another round of testing down to those 9 years old.

“Hopefully by the time we get to the late spring and early summer we will have children being able to be vaccinated,” Fauci said at a White House coronavirus briefing.

  1. Hmm, Canada just closed borders last night, without warning.

Entering Canada now, you WILL be put in a hotel for two weeks and be charged 2 grand for it. Meals included. You will be escorted to whatever hotel/motel selected.

It is scary shit. I'm using this as a barometer on how fucked things are.

That being said, we, (wife and I), have to leave Guatemala by March 1. Expired Visa. They could not renew it a third time. Mexico is our destination.

To recap, I am kinda worried. My retirement timing for sailing could have been better planned lol. 5 years along in my plan and two of your years have been here in Guatemala.

Addendum; Canada can still fly to the States.

  2. I live on the Canadian border & it's been closed to all but essential workers for months now. We saw a few Canadian plates this past summer as many have summer camps on the U.S. side. Other than that, we just don't see them. From what you're saying Alan S, it sounds like they've kicked the door shut even tighter. We miss the Canadians, they are family, friends and supporters of our touch and go economy up here at the end of the world, the U.S. world that is.

  3. We are meeting American fellow cruisers and Canadian fellow cruisers in Mexico. Going to isolate in a loose group and wait for a vaccine. Hopefully borders will open a bit! Wearing a mask is my future, at least for another year.

Been hearing snippets that the tolls have been under reported by a wide margin. It going to be a wait and see scenario, I suppose.

  4. Yes, we heard on the CBC the same information you mentioned in your first post Allan. We're a hot spot now after doing so well for so long, due to isolation. But, like everywhere else, science is up against it. Vaccines are slowly trickling in & we're on a list of 65+, so we wait. Meantime, masks are practically all we've got going for us. The younger folks are getting sick, and I mean Sick with a capital S. It's all so nuts. Wishing you well down in Mexico. The warm weather must be nice right about now. Brutal up here...good thing we like cold eh!
