COVID-19 Update

We keep chipping away at the problem, and even though the progress is infuriatingly slow because of the artificial headwind, we stumble forward.

CDC committee to meet on Moderna, J&J boosters

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s independent advisory committee will meet Oct. 20 and 21 to discuss the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine boosters, respectively.

This will follow the Food and Drug Administration’s independent advisers meeting Oct. 14 and Oct. 15 to discuss the agency greenlighting the boosters.

The CDC also announced Friday that the panel will convene Nov. 2 and 3 to discuss pediatric vaccinations.

The regulatory approval of the two booster vaccines would expand a distribution program, which has accelerated in recent days, according to the White House. Four million Americans have received boosters, half of which was in five days, Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeff Zients said during a news briefing Wednesday.

Here’s what to know
  • Health officials are urging Americans to get their flu shots, warning the flu season that didn’t materialize when most of society was shut down last year, could come roaring back and strain hospitals in the months ahead.
  • The U.S. economy added 194,000 jobs in September, the Department of Labor reported Friday, a disappointing month that reflects how severely the delta variant is hampering the economic recovery.
  • England has announced that on Monday it will abolish a substantial number of coronavirus-related travel restrictions, slashing its “red list” of nations and allowing for easier international movement.

1 out of every 463 Americans has been killed by COVID-19
