Putin is the bad guy, our backing Ukraine reveals the fight is between Democracy vs Authoritarian Rule (instead of Democracy vs Communism) and now Republicans have to change their tune.
I'll go out on a very short and secure limb, and say it won't much matter that the GOP is talking out of the other side of their mouth now. Republican voters have shown themselves time and again to be reprogrammable meatbags (hat tip = Driftglass). They'll wait for their guru Frank Luntz to issue a short white paper lining out the spin, and they'll pretzel their way through it, same as always.
