New Product - Maybe

"Sustainability" is a concept we hit on way back when hippies who loved to bitch about plastic Christmas trees started to understand that "going natural" generally meant cutting down acres and acres of young conifers, which would eventually damage Mama Earth as much as petrochemicals.

So the factory tree farm came of age and prospered.

It also seemed perfectly healthy and Earth-friendly to produce foods the old-fashioned way, but then we saw that meeting demand for an awful lot of our food products led to pushing climate change into a very unhealthy place because the best way to keep up was to do the factory farming thing, which contributes enormously to our problems with fouling the nest - and we're kinda right back where we started.

Business Insider:

  • California company Perfect Day is making a real dairy protein without any animal products.
  • Ice cream, milk, and cream cheese made with the protein are already on the market.
  • Investments in fermentation-based proteins like the one made by Perfect Day tripled from 2019 to 2020.
Plant-based dairy alternatives have been around for decades. But now, one California company is making real dairy without the cows.

Did you catch it? Those magnificent nerds are printing food!

So now we get to wrestle with the "Natural vs GMO" thing for a while longer(?)

Is this stuff "synthetic"? Is it synthetic in a bad way? Many questions.

Pretty wacky.
