Humans are really good at doing that because the False Positive(*) is what has kept us going and turned us into a dominant species to rival the dinosaurs.
We've honed Pattern Recognition to a fine art. The problem is that bad actors are well-schooled in the techniques that can be used to co-opt that instinct, and turn it against us.
They've known about it for quite a while, and they've used it to great effect.
You can be forgiven if you've hit on the possibility that Trump orchestrated the shooting at the WHCD last night in order to facilitate his Big Beautiful Ballroom grift.
I just really doubt there's any connection - ie: I don't think anybody put the shooter up to it - but Trump is obviously cunning enough to take anything that happens and twist it into a link that he can say necessitates doing some bullshit thing he wants done. And he knows the MAGA rubes will eat it up and go right along with him
