The lifespan of a data center's physical plant (the building, equipment, etc) is about 20-30 years.

The lifespan of its economically viable productive use is 10-15 years.

Why am I picking up the tab for some of the richest, most profitable companies, on something that's going to be obsolete in about 12 years?

Here's an idea - pay for your own shit.

Water Usage:

• Direct: Water consumed on-site - mostly lost to evaporation in cooling towers. Up 90% of this water does not return to the local supply.
• Indirect:  Water consumed off-site by power plants to generate the massive amount of electricity data centers require. This indirect footprint can be significantly larger than direct on-site use.

One example is a Meta data center that reports direct water usage at 3 million gallons, while the indirect usage is 72 million gallons.

And that usage is per day.

  3 million gallons of water every day to cool the data center

72 million gallons of water every day to power the fuckin' thing.

The amount of water used by one big ass data center is about the same amount needed for a city of 25,000 people.
