A Poem

A poem called The Morning After

the wave is almost too much

for a body to comprehend

first black woman governor

first native american woman governor

first latina governor of texas

first woman governor of ohio

first black governor of nevada

first muslim elected to senate

first openly gay man going to senate

first native american woman to senate

full control of the house and the senate

enabling accountability and repair

we, the people

DID THIS

we felt the horror of it all

we stayed present

we boycotted

we resisted

we got creative

we cared for each other

we organized

we trusted each other

we found our voices

so freaking proud

to be in this with 

each of you

we’re loving our country

into its next chapter

together is the way

forward
