The MAGA community is furious after the NFL organized a Mexican mariachi band to perform a unique national anthem ahead of Monday Night Football at Soldier Field in Chicago
A Mariachi band performed the national anthem at Soldier Field ahead of Monday Night Football between the Chicago Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles, which annoyed the MAGA community as Mexican history was made.
The anthem tune was performed by the band without words, allowing for a unique rendition at Soldier Field. The performance was part of the Bears' annual Latino Heritage Month celebration, featuring Latino-inspired entertainment and fan activations all around the stadium.
Also performing before MNF was Chicago native Sandra Delgado. "That is going to be so beautiful and meaningful, and that is really going to bring down the house, too. It's so special to have them here," she said.
However, the performance instantly began trending, with some enjoying the rendition, and others left furious at the concept. Political commentator David Freeman, who goes by Gunther Eagleman on social media, was one of several to speak out.
Another Trump activist who goes by Charles R. Downs wrote on X, "During tonight’s NFL Monday Night Football game in Democrat-run Chicago, Illinois, a Mexican mariachi band performed the United States National Anthem. Last time I checked, Mexicans have their own country and national anthem.
"We don’t need people dressed like Mexicans performing America’s national anthem. Also, it wouldn’t shock me if Democrat Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker personally requested this disgusting display. These woke people hate America."
Other fans shared similar frustrations, with one commenting, "I love a good mariachi band, but that national anthem didn't feel like the national anthem. The NFL seems to go out of their way to be weird and woke."
Another fan bluntly wrote, "Why the hell is a Mariachi band playing the National Anthem on Monday Night Football?"
While some fans were unhappy with the pregame performance, Monday night was a huge moment for Keenum, who may have thought that his NFL career was over. Keenum last played in an NFL game 1,009 days ago, and found himself starting against the Eagles.
With Williams out with a minor hamstring injury and backup Tyson Baegent in concussion protocol, the responsibility fell to Keenum. The veteran was emotional before the game, stating he had enjoyed every minute of it.
