Choose Wisely

National Geographic Magazine, cover shot for June 2018:

Asking the question: Planet or plastic?

Again:

We're not trying to save the planet. The planet will survive, in one state or another, for the next 4 billion years - with us or without us.

What we're trying to do is to make it less likely that the planet will kill us all in the next few hundred years.

Some Art

Gunduz Aghayev:

In 1998-2002 he studied in Azerbaijan State Painters' Academy. His first exhibition was held in 2004. The second exhibition of his works was held in Baku Muesum Center. His exhibitions were held outside of country, as well. He took part in exhibitions held in Russia (2008), Turkey (2011) as well as "Friendship" exhibition held by the French embassy in 2002 and international artistry exhibition held in Turkmenistan in 2013.

Also he participated in the "Art for democracy" project. As a protest against injustice in his country he turned to cartoon genre and faced strong pressure; he was sacked of all projects. After constant pressure, in 2014 he left Azerbaijan.

Keith

I really don't like being constantly amazed that people I went to school with seem to demonstrate the most appalling lack of education. They went to the same schools as I did, dammit - how do they have no recollection of (today's example) "the symbol is not the thing" that we heard over and over again in the Semantics Unit in Language Arts our sophomore year?

Yeah, OK, high school's getting to be a very long time ago, but how do you not know that one?  The average partly-trained orangutan knows that one. At the very bottom of your mid-brain, there's a solid understanding of the concept. And when it's triggered, it should pop right up to the surface.

The anti-intellectual conditioning - the dimming of America - has been pretty effective.
