Today's Wingnut

Our returning champion - Glenn Beck, everybody!

Why does it always come down to the Reichstag fire, and why does it never occur to these guys that - oh, I dunno - maybe we could consider Occam's Razor or something?  I'm not sayin' ya gotta be perfectly reasonable like normal people, but couldn't you gimme one clear moment every 4th or 5th time out?  I'm also not saying we should just automatically eliminate all possibility that the guy was set up and/or egged on by somebody who's deeply embedded in Obama's nefarious plot to destroy America (or whatever the fuck these boneheads like to jack off to late at night on a random Friday), but c'mon - at least gimme somethin' new once in a while.

What's Real?

hat tip = The Rude Pundit
Back in that time, the "bad guys" were often foreign; be it your mad Sheik or your Toru Tanaka, you were always encouraged to boo at the non-white dude while men in cowboy boots stomped them.
Why bring this up? Because it's encouraging to find out that the current WWE champion is a Mexican character, Alberto del Rio, who is a widely loved "good guy." And the bad guys gunning for him are two redneck Tea Party members, Zeb Colter and Jack Swagger, whose rhetoric is just like anything you'd hear at a teabagger rally.
Why bring this up? Because internet radio host Glenn Beck got all upset at the portrayal of his beloved nutzoid Tea Party as racist jerk-offs who spout meaningless, jingoistic bullshit. He called the WWE's fans "stupid" and wondered, "I just don't see a bunch of progressives going and buying their tickets to the WWE." That's right. Glenn Beck turned against a Republican-led company and its customers.

Beck's Projections

Listen closely, and you can make out the subliminal message: Teach your kids to expect less. There are winners and losers in life; the people you see on TV and the people you read about in the papers are the winners, and all of you are losers. Get used to it.

Inadvertancy

It's a tough gig coming up with something to fill air time every day. I'm not excusing the behavior - I'm just sayin'.
1) There's been a significant increase in the response "NONE" when people are asked about their religious affiliation. Beck sees this and jumps to the conclusion that it means they've all suddenly turned atheist. Because, of course, it couldn't possibly have anything to do with the really shitty things religion has been used for lately, right?
2) Beck bemoans the use of the melody of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" for a 'pro-Obama' song performed by school kids. Does he not realize that for a pretty good chunk of his audience, that tune is all about the Federal Army invading the sovereign states of The Confederacy? Hmm...

New Meaning

From a piece linked to by both Andrew Sullivan and Balloon Juice:

beck v. trans. beck-ing, beck-ed, to be baselessly attacked by an idiot with a megaphone, then have those accusations alter your life for the worse because it’s politically expedient for your spineless superiors to demote or fire you.

Perspective

I wasn't aware of this guy before today. I just kinda stumbled across this at Little Green Footballs.
