Today's Weirdness

Here we are in USAmerica Inc:
Where we have thousands of people driving around with Tupperware containers and plastic grocery bags filled with gasoline, who are afraid to get a vaccination because they think it might be unsafe.

Today's Middle East Shit

The pic below shows Hamas rockets (on the right) being defended against by the Israeli Iron Dome anti-missile system, and is being pimped as an "iconic photo" of the current blowup between Palestinians and Israelis - that it's as beautiful as it is horrific - or it's as horrific as it is beautiful - or some such nonsense.

There's nothing beautiful about anything horrific. If you actually believe there is, then you need to be shaken &/or beaten like a dirty rug. You need to go and see the result of this madness - the damage and the death - on the ground and in the light of day.

And then you can go check your fucking values.

We can't allow this hagiographic romanticizing bullshit to continue.

Brian Tyler Cohen and the typical false conflation that is stock-in-trade at DumFux News.

ie: If you're not down with Trump's Big Lie about a "stolen election", then you can't be opposed to Biden's agenda, and therefor you're a RINO, and a closeted socialist, and you're doing the devil's work, and why do you hate Jesus and freedom, and blah blah blah...

But Cohen points how the reason for the abrupt reversals - if they don't pimp the Big Lie, then their case for Voter Suppression goes flat.

Roosting Chickens

A couple of encouraging things from NPR today.

First, we can be a little more confident there will be no whitewash when it comes to getting the US military squared away and unfucked.

Active-Duty Marine Corps Major Charged In Capitol Riot

An active-duty officer in the U.S. Marine Corps has been arrested and charged for allegedly assaulting police during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters.

Maj. Christopher Warnagiris was arrested Thursday in Virginia and charged with five counts, including assaulting or impeding an officer, obstruction and unlawful entry. Officials say he is believed to be the first active-duty military service member to be charged in connection with the Capitol insurrection.

According to an FBI document filed in federal court, security camera footage from the Capitol on Jan. 6 shows Warnagiris forcing his way through East Rotunda doors.

Warnagiris then allegedly tried to prevent U.S. Capitol Police officers from shutting the doors and at one point pushed an officer who was trying to secure the entrance.

The FBI received a tip from the public in March that helped identify Warnagiris, according to court papers. Agents followed up on the information by obtaining two government photographs of Warnagiris and then interviewing a co-worker at his military command, who identified him in photographs from the Capitol.

Warnagiris made his initial appearance Thursday in federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia. The government did not seek his detention.

More than 400 people have been charged so far in connection with the Capitol breach, including around 40 military veterans as well as a handful of guard members and reservists.

And second - uh-oh, this could be trouble.

2 Years Later, Former White House Counsel Don McGahn Agrees To Testify

Former Trump White House counsel Don McGahn will testify before the House Judiciary Committee about his role in former special prosecutor Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, the panel announced Wednesday.

McGahn will speak only to committee members in private, under an agreement negotiated by his attorneys, the committee and the Justice Department. The interview will be conducted "as soon as possible" and a transcript will be released publicly shortly thereafter, according to the court filing.

McGahn served as the campaign attorney for former President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential run and later as his White House counsel until 2018.

The agreement settles a nearly two-year court battle over McGahn's refusal to testify before the Judiciary Committee. It first subpoenaed McGahn in 2019 after Mueller's report indicated he would be knowledgeable of multiple allegations of obstruction committed by Trump. His administration prevented key White House advisers from testifying in the committee's review of the Mueller investigation.

The interview will be limited to information attributed to McGahn in the publicly available portions of the Mueller report, as well as events that involved him personally. He can decline to answer questions that go beyond that scope. Attorneys for the Justice Department may also tell McGahn not to answer certain questions.

McGahn can be asked, however, whether he believes the Mueller report accurately reflects his statements during the investigation and whether those comments were truthful.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler said in a statement Wednesday, "I am pleased that we have reached an arrangement that satisfies our subpoena, protects the Committee's constitutional duty to conduct oversight in the future, and safeguards sensitive executive branch prerogatives."

The big news from yesterday was the CDC announcing updated mask guidelines.

If you're fully vaccinated (ie: you've gotten your final jab, and it's been at least 2 weeks post-jab), then you can go naked.

Get your jab, dummy.

How can the vaccines be safe and effective if they were developed so quickly?

Messenger RNA technology had been studied, developed and refined for years before it was used in the coronavirus vaccines. To develop the two mRNA vaccines, all scientists essentially needed to do was plug in the molecular code for the coronavirus’s spike protein, said Robert Murphy, executive director of the Institute for Global Health and a professor of medicine and biomedical engineering at Northwestern University. (The vaccines contain molecular instructions — mRNA — that tell your cells to create a harmless protein similar to the spike protein on the surface of the coronavirus. Your immune system will recognize this harmless protein as an interloper, and be primed to eliminate the actual coronavirus if you are exposed to it.) That, along with the urgent need, billions of dollars in funding and a streamlined regulatory pathway, allowed enterprises such as the Pfizer-BioNTech partnership and Moderna to roll out the vaccines in record time.

Are the vaccines “experimental?”

No. An experimental vaccine is one that has not gone through clinical trials and authorization or approval processes. The available coronavirus vaccines have completed clinical trials and have been authorized for emergency use. Pfizer recently filed for full approval from the FDA.

Will the vaccines cause infertility?

The contention that the coronavirus vaccines might cause infertility is an argument that has been raised about other vaccines in the past but is “a complete myth” with no basis in science, said Sean O’Leary, vice chair of the Committee on Infectious Diseases for the American Academy of Pediatrics. “There’s no reason to think that these vaccines are going to affect fertility any more than any other vaccine — and no vaccine in history has ever had any impact on fertility,” O’Leary said.

- snip -

Will the mRNA vaccines change my DNA?

No, that’s not possible, experts said. The messenger RNA in the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines that helps create the immune response against the coronavirus doesn’t enter the nucleus of the cells where DNA resides.

- snip -

Will the vaccines alter my immune system?

Every vaccine is intended to rev up the immune system to generate antibodies against a target virus. But there is no evidence to support claims by anti-vaccination activists that the coronavirus vaccines, particularly the mRNA shots, can permanently alter the immune system or lead to autoimmune diseases.

In fact, federal health authorities have said that the vaccines are safe for people who are immunocompromised.

- snip -

Do the vaccines contain aborted fetal cells?

There are no aborted fetal cells or tissue in any of the coronavirus vaccines. The confusion, experts said, arises largely from the well-established practice of developing and testing medical products, including vaccines, using historical fetal cell lines that were derived decades ago from elective abortions. These cell lines have been used to create vaccines against diseases such as hepatitis A, rubella and rabies.

- snip -

Do the vaccines contain microchips?

It appears this myth may have at least partly originated from a comment from Bill Gates that was misconstrued and shared widely across social media. But “it couldn’t be further from the truth,” Murphy said.

Injectable microchips? Really? C'mon, people - you might as well try to tell me some random bronze-age rabbi raised the dead and turned water to wine.  Get fuckin' serious.

The Banality Of Evil

Seems benign and simple and humility-inducing, doesn't it?

But to be sure, for some who trade in this kinda thing, there's actually an implied threat.

"Quit yer bitchin' and be happy with the scraps from our table - we could always make it worse you - is that what you want?"

One of the things we're supposed to have learned from the history and the lived experience of our brown brothers and sisters is that we're not required to be satisfied with whatever shitty circumstances we're caught in just because somebody else's circumstances are even shittier.

"How do we justify paying $400 for an Epi-Pen when there are homeless suicidal veterans on our streets?"

That may sound reasonable until you take the time to dissect it, and realize the intent is to set us up to be each other's enemies. People with life-threatening allergies should not be in a fight with veterans over resources that are being subjected to arbitrary and artificial limits.

The "enemies" are the cynical manipulators of public sentiment, funded by plutocratic rent-seeking leeches, and their armies of coin-operated politicians.

We can't fight the good fight if we keep falling for this divide-n-conquer bullshit all the time.
