54 Miles
The Selma to Montgomery March occurred on March 21 to 25, 1965, and was led by Dr Martin Luther King. This march was the culmination of several weeks of activity, during which demonstrators had tried to march on two occasions. They were stopped on both occasions, once violently, by the police. Approximately 25,000 people joined the March and it became a landmark event in the Civil Rights Movement, leading directly to the passing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The march brought public attention to the injustices faced by African Americans in voting.
In 1996, it was designated as a National Historic Trail in an act proposed by President Bill Clinton and passed by Congress, to be preserved by the National Park Service.
In March 2005, a re-enactment of the march took place to commemorate its 40th anniversary. This anniversary led to the creation of a pedestrian walk around Selma.
In 2015 the Marion to Selma Connecting Trail was designated to connect the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail with the site of Jimmie Lee Jackson's murder.
The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 directed the National Park Service to study potential additions to the trail and whether it should become a unit of the National Park System.

On The Mythology Of Greatness
God does not need help from Generals.
The purpose of the separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries.
--James Madison, in a letter objecting to the use of government land for churches, 1803

"...and when they rise, they do not whisper - they thunder and they rage."
Democracy is not something we have
if it's not something we do.

History will not be kind to the assholes perpetrating these horrors,
nor to the rest of us if all we do is watch and say nothing.

Powerful monied people have been pressing the Both Sides crap for a very long time, intending (IMO) to collapse our little experiment in democratic self-government in order to install a corporate-style plutocracy.
And it's possible that the Epstein thing is going to blow it all up - if we can get or most of it - or enough of it - out into the sunlight.

On sustainability, the impermanence of corporeal things, and trying to grow back into our natural sense of scarcity.
Now put that together with the contradictory belief that things are both scarce and inexhaustible, which effective marketing has used quite well to tie us in knots so we just kinda throw up our hands and go along with whatever's fashionable at the moment.

"And if this moment asks for courage, then we will find it - in our own voices, and in our votes, and in the quiet conviction that this country is not yet finished becoming what it was supposed to be."

Some have become convinced of the absurdities, and are now committing the atrocities.

When I let the world fly by at the speed of a 24/7 cycle of rage-baiting, I can lose perspective.
Kinda pisses me off when I have to be reminded of what's important.

Hold fast - the fight is long.
Like the man said: We're still far from the beginning of the end, but we may be seeing the end of the beginning.
One thing we have to work on is resisting the perception of scarcity being pressed on us night and day by a system that can't survive if we recognize what a shitty little game is being played by the clear-eyed pragmatic free-market entrepreneurs who tell us they have more because they work more, or they work smarter, or they're just better - and blah blah blah.
It's bullshit. Billionaires and their multinational conglomerates are parasites. And the benefits that so many people depend on - that the ruling class is bent on withholding - is really just a way of rewarding greedy assholes for things like wage theft, and "externalizing cost".
So the greedy assholes may think they're being clever by "applying discipline" in order to rake in greater profits - that they're getting away with something - but they're actually busy shooting themselves in the foot.
As you concentrate more and more power and money into fewer and fewer hands, you create a bigger and bigger group of angry frustrated people who, eventually, are going to see they have nothing left to lose.
And they will come for you.
embrace the suck
stay in the fight
