Our Next President

I'm putting this up as a prayer. Just as every vote is a prayer. Every time we get up and go to work, it's a prayer. Every time we look at a kid or a teenager or anyone younger that we are, and wonder about their future - it's a prayer.

We live on the promise of love and the bonds of honor.

It's The Love, Stupid

People tell us "love hurts", but that's not true.

Loneliness hurts. Rejection hurts. Envy & jealousy hurt. Losing someone hurts.

We get these things confused with love, but the reality is that love is the one thing in the world that eases all that pain and makes us feel well and truly whole again.

Love is the one thing that doesn't hurt.

I was a 14-year-old whitebread suburban knucklehead in 1967, blissfully ignorant of the kinda shit POC - and anyone who dared to love them - were having to put up with.

POC still have to put up with shit no one should have to put up with in 2021 - even here in USAmerica Inc.

We can say we've made some progress, and that'll have to do for right now today, but holy fuck, do we have a lotta work to do tomorrow, and everyday after that before we can stand proud and say we're being true to our stated principles.

Happy Loving Day everybody.

Loving Day is an annual celebration held on June 12, the anniversary of the 1967 United States Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia which struck down all anti-miscegenation laws remaining in sixteen U.S. states. In the United States, anti-miscegenation laws were U.S. state laws banning interracial marriage, mainly forbidding marriage between two different races, until the Warren Court ruled unanimously in 1967 that these state laws were unconstitutional. Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote in the court majority opinion that "the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual, and cannot be infringed by the State."

Loving Day is not an officially recognized holiday by the U.S. government, despite attempts to make it so. Loving Day is the biggest multiracial celebration in the United States.

Here's the thing: You're not being "forced to accept" things that go against your personal beliefs.

If you have a problem with people of color, or gay marriage, or trans people, or immigrants, or women, or whatever it is you feel is somehow in opposition to your worldview, then you're still welcome to feel as badly as you think you should feel about all of that - but you're not allowed to make their lives harder because of the way you feel about them - you don't get to turn their daily lives into a battleground.

No one is trying to force you to accept anything. You're just not allowed to terrorize people.

Syria is another in a long list of conflicts where nobody even knows how to tell the good guys from the bad guys. But no mater - this is not right. This is just never fucking right.
