Newsweek:

Former MLB star Aubrey Huff has criticized lockdown measures implemented because of the COVID-19 outbreak, claiming he would "rather die of coronavirus than wear a mask and live in fear."

Earlier this week, the two-time World Series champion tweeted he would no longer wear a mask inside any businesses, saying it was "unconstitutional to enforce."

On Tuesday, he doubled down on the claim, suggesting that while the "liberal left" had criticized him and "guilt-shamed me for threatening the lives of millions of innocent people" most "well-adjusted, sane people" agreed with his stance.

COVID-19 Update

We're still hangin' at 1.01 Growth Rate while the world has ticked up to 1.02.

I found out yesterday that almost 117,000 US military died in WW1 - and about 63,000 of those died of illness, primarily the flu.

COVID-19 Update

Item:

Dexamethasone, a cheap and widely used steroid, has become the first drug shown to be able to save lives among COVID-19 patients in what scientists hailed as a “major breakthrough”.

Results of trials announced on Tuesday showed dexamethasone, which is used to reduce inflammation in other diseases, reduced death rates by around a third among the most severely ill COVID-19 patients admitted to hospital.

Item:

New cases of COVID-19 nearly doubled in Alabama and South Carolina in the second week of June compared to the prior seven days, a Reuters analysis found, as 17 U.S. states reported weekly increases in the spread of the novel coronavirus.

And There It Is

We have a "president" who thinks he gains politically by stirring up shit.

He has repeatedly invited the inference that violence in spite of the law is something we need - something that will solve some problems for us. And on some occasions, his rhetoric has been far more direct.

WaPo:

Protesters in Albuquerque wrapped a chain around the neck of a bronze statue and began tugging, chanting “Tear it down,” shortly before sunset on Monday. Their efforts to pull down a monument of Spanish conquistador Juan de OƱate suddenly stopped as four shots rang out.

Most people instinctively turned toward the noise, videos from the scene show. A few screamed. Just yards away, a group of militia men sporting military-like garb and carrying semiautomatic rifles formed a protective circle around the gunman.

The gunshots, which left one man in critical but stable condition, have set off a cascade of public outcry denouncing the unregulated militia’s presence and the shooting, although police have yet to announce an arrest or describe exactly what happened. The victim is also unidentified.

“The heavily armed individuals who flaunted themselves at the protest, calling themselves a ‘civil guard,’ were there for one reason: To menace protesters, to present an unsanctioned show of unregulated force,” New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) said in a statement. “To menace the people of New Mexico with weaponry — with an implicit threat of violence — is on its face unacceptable; that violence did indeed occur is unspeakable.”

Sometime this afternoon, 45* is set to deliver his latest executive order, which is supposed to line out what he thinks we should do in the area of Police Reform.

He's hinted that he'll be addressing specifically "the sheriffs".
Given what we know about the Daddy State movement, these bozos believe strongly that the office of County Sheriff is the repository of all "real power" under the constitution.

This could be very interesting.

Media Report

What Fake News actually looks like.

WaPo:

President Trump’s fury was palpable last week after CNN released a poll that showed him trailing in his reelection bid by 14 points. He lashed out on Twitter and took the unusual step of threatening a lawsuit over the result, a move that might be called dubious in the same way that LeBron James might be called athletic. It is — but that’s underselling the point a bit.

Happily for the president, there exists an ecosystem of questionable actors willing to assuage whatever concerns might emerge. His repeated excoriations against “fake news” have made clear to his supporters that any reporting that may be in any way construed as negative should be considered untrue. That puts pressure on outlets such as Fox News that, although certainly more generous to Trump than other outlets, still at times include voices other than the most sycophantic. That’s a frustration to the president — and an opportunity by One America News, a tiny cable-network upstart that has earned praise from Trump for being unfailingly positive about his presidency.

Last week, we reported that OAN’s core mission of supporting Trump had been hampered by some bad news: a poll of Florida that the company’s chief executive pledged would offer good news for the president instead showed him in a tie with former vice president Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, in the state. This state, remember, is one Trump won four years ago and is also his newly adopted home.

Saying there's no racism because the statistics indicate that black people are just more prone to commit crime is possibly the most racist shit you could say right now.
